Six-Year-Old Boy Injured After Metal Rod From Car Seat Pierces Eye Area

Date:

A six-year-old boy suffered a serious eye-area injury after being impaled by a metal rod from a car seat while travelling with his family in an incident on Monday afternoon.

Baling Fire and Rescue Station chief Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil said emergency services received a call at 2.42pm and immediately deployed a team to the Parit Panjang Health Clinic.

The child was reportedly in a vehicle driven by his mother, travelling from Sungai Kembal to Baling town to send his grandmother to a religious class when the incident occurred.

Firefighters found that part of the boy’s face had been pierced by a metal rod believed to have come from the rear seat of the car.

Rescue personnel used a mini cutting tool to remove the metal before handing the victim over to medical staff at the clinic.

The extrication operation, led by Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Najmi Zainal, took around 20 minutes, with firefighters carefully cutting the metal to prevent further injury.

Authorities said approximately 15 centimetres of the rod remained lodged in the victim before it was successfully cut and stabilised.

The operation concluded at 3.35pm, after which the child was transferred to Baling Hospital for further treatment.

Officials have not released further details on the boy’s condition, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
