Mohamad Sabu Dismisses Rumours On New Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar

Date:

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has dismissed speculation that its sole state assemblyman in Negeri Sembilan could be appointed as the next Menteri Besar, reaffirming its full support for the current state leadership.

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said the party remains firm in its position to back PKR’s Aminuddin Harun as Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

“The answer is no. The MB of Negeri Sembilan is Aminuddin and he shall remain so,” he said in a Facebook post on Friday.

Mohamad was responding to speculation that Klawang assemblyman Bakri Sawir was being considered as a possible replacement for Aminuddin.

Bakri, who is serving his second term as state assemblyman, previously held a position in the state executive council during his first term.

Mohamad stressed that Amanah has consistently opposed the formation of any backdoor government and will continue to uphold that stance without compromise.

“There is nothing more to say on this. Full stop,” he added.

The current Negeri Sembilan state government was formed after the 2023 state election, where Pakatan Harapan secured 17 seats, followed by Barisan Nasional with 14 seats and Perikatan Nasional with five.

Tensions had emerged in late April when all 14 Barisan Nasional assemblymen reportedly withdrew support for Aminuddin, citing dissatisfaction over his handling of a royal-related issue in the state.

The group, all from Umno, later claimed to have secured backing from Perikatan Nasional assemblymen, suggesting a possible shift in majority support.

However, both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan leadership later reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the state unity government framework following internal discussions in early May.

Despite this, Negeri Sembilan Umno maintained that it still stood by its earlier position of withdrawing confidence in the Menteri Besar’s leadership, even as it agreed to follow party directives to support the unity government arrangement.
