Indonesia Reports Two Suspected Hantavirus Cases In Jakarta And Yogyakarta

Date:

Indonesia has reported two suspected hantavirus cases in Jakarta and Yogyakarta amid growing regional concern linked to the MV Hondius cruise ship, according to the country’s Ministry of Health on Friday.

The report was carried by Xinhua News Agency.

Ministry spokesperson Aji Muhawarman said both suspected cases are currently undergoing laboratory confirmation.

“Two suspected cases are currently being verified,” he said.

Authorities also revealed that Indonesia recorded 23 confirmed hantavirus cases between 2024 and 2026, with three fatalities reported during the same period.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the government has been working closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) to strengthen screening and early detection measures.

The developments come amid heightened regional vigilance over hantavirus following health screenings linked to recent cases involving passengers from the MV Hondius cruise ship.
