Four siblings, including three primary school pupils and a secondary school student, were seriously injured after the motorcycle they were travelling on collided with a car while on their way to school in Machang, Kelantan on Monday morning.
The incident occurred at about 7am along Kilometre 51.4 of the Kota Bharu–Kuala Krai Road near Kampung Pek.
The injured victims were identified as 14-year-old Muhammad Muskir Rosli, who was riding the motorcycle and studying at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Intan, along with three younger siblings riding pillion — Mas Siti Rosnani Rosli, 7, Muhamad Hakikat Abdul Rahman, 9, and Muhammad Zulhaqif Muhamad Zulkifli, 12 — all pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Pek.
The car driver, a 39-year-old female teacher, escaped unhurt.
Machang police chief Superintendent Azuhar Md Nor said preliminary investigations showed the Honda Jazz was travelling from Machang towards Kuala Krai, while the motorcycle carrying the four siblings was coming from the opposite direction.
He said the collision happened when the motorcycle suddenly turned right into a school junction, resulting in a crash with the front right side of the car that was passing through the main road.
All four siblings were found lying on the road following the impact and were rushed to Machang Hospital for initial treatment before being referred to Hospital Sultan Ismail Petra in Kuala Krai due to the severity of their injuries.
Police have urged eyewitnesses or individuals with information about the incident to come forward to assist investigations by contacting the Machang District Police Headquarters operations room.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
