IPGM Vows Strict Action Over Bullying Allegations At Kuching Campus

Date:

The Malaysian Institute of Teacher Education, Institut Pendidikan Guru Malaysia (IPGM), has stressed that it will not tolerate any form of bullying involving its trainees and is prepared to impose severe disciplinary action, including expulsion from the institution.

The statement was issued following media reports on Monday regarding alleged bullying incidents at an IPG campus in Kuching, which sparked concern among parents over the safety and wellbeing of their children.

In a statement, IPGM said the matter is being treated seriously and a detailed investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incident as well as identify those involved.

“This incident is currently under investigation by IPGM. Firm action, including disciplinary punishment in the form of expulsion from IPGM, will be taken against any trainee found guilty,” the statement read.

IPGM also stressed that trainee teachers are expected to uphold a high level of discipline while demonstrating good morals and exemplary character in line with their future role as educators.

The issue gained attention after reports surfaced online highlighting parents’ concerns over the alleged bullying culture at the campus. Many expressed worries over the integrity and professionalism of future teachers should such negative behaviour not be addressed at an early stage.

At the same time, IPGM assured that the safety and welfare of trainees remain a top priority, adding that the institution is committed to maintaining a safe and conducive campus environment in producing quality educators for the nation.
