Police are investigating after four residential units in Bukit Indah were set on fire in separate incidents on Friday and Saturday, with initial findings suggesting the use of Molotov cocktails.
The Royal Malaysia Police confirmed receiving reports on the incidents and said investigations are ongoing under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951 and Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire.
Authorities believe the attacks may be linked to illegal money lending activities, commonly associated with “loan shark” syndicates.
In a brief statement, the Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters said officers are actively working to identify those responsible and establish the motive behind the attacks.
Meanwhile, Iskandar Puteri Member of Parliament Liew Chin Tong visited the affected area, which is believed to have been targeted by a loan shark syndicate allegedly operating from Singapore.
In a Facebook post, he also expressed appreciation to Bukit Indah Police Station chief Inspector J M Alvin Sudesshen for the swift response upon receiving the reports.
Liew, who is also the Perling state assemblyman, said he supports local community efforts to strengthen safety measures and will assist in channelling welfare aid to affected residents.
He added that further follow-up action will be taken to ensure the safety of the neighbourhood and to address concerns raised by residents following the incidents.
