Education Minister Visits Family Of Year Two Pupil Killed In Van Accident

Date:

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek visited the family of a Year Two pupil from Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Maimon who was killed after being hit by a van in front of the school on May 5.

She arrived at the family home in Kampung Parit Mustaffa, Parit Sulong at about 5.30pm on Monday, where she met and comforted the victim’s parents, Asmilah Tukiran, 37, and Ahmad Fareez Khalid, 39.

The minister spent around 30 minutes with the grieving family and also presented cash assistance along with essential household items to support them during the difficult time.

The fatal incident occurred at about 12.30pm when the eight-year-old victim was struck by a van that was exiting the school compound. The pupil was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tragedy has raised renewed concerns over safety measures around school premises, particularly during peak drop-off and pick-up hours.

The father of the victim expressed hope that the Ministry of Education Malaysia and state education authorities would strengthen standard operating procedures related to school safety, especially in primary schools, to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Earlier in Johor Bahru, Fadhlina said the ministry is currently enhancing the School Safety Management Guidelines to ensure they remain relevant to current challenges and better protect students and school staff.
