A 39-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly injuring another man with a sword at a temple in Cameron Highlands yesterday.
Azri Ramli said the suspect was detained following a tip-off from the public regarding the incident, which occurred around 6pm.
He said preliminary investigations found that the victim, a 31-year-old man, was taking part in a religious ceremony at the temple with several friends when the incident happened.
“Suddenly, the suspect arrived at the temple compound, caused a disturbance and acted aggressively towards visitors. When asked to leave, he became angry and picked up a sword found at the temple before swinging it towards the victim,” he said in a statement.
The victim sustained injuries to his hand, forehead and body after attempting to block the attack. He was first taken to Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom Hospital in Tanah Rata before being transferred to Hospital Fatimah in Ipoh for further treatment.
Police also revealed that the suspect has prior criminal records, including drug-related offences.
The man has been remanded for four days until Thursday to assist investigations under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons.
