The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is investigating allegations of a drug distribution network in Langkawi that is believed to be masterminded by a police officer.
Inspector-General of Police Mohd Khalid Ismail said investigations are still at an early stage and authorities are unable to reveal further details regarding the individuals or groups allegedly involved.
“On the matter, investigations are still ongoing. I need to determine who is involved, the individuals connected, or any groups linked to the case. So we cannot comment further at this stage.
“However, we will not compromise on issues like this,” he told reporters after attending the PDRM Special Dialogue Edition 5/2026 on Tuesday.
When asked whether the case would be investigated by the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS), Mohd Khalid said the probe falls under matters involving national security and law enforcement.
“If it concerns the law, security and related matters, we will not hesitate to take legal action,” he said.
Earlier, local media reports claimed that a structured drug syndicate had resurfaced in the resort island, allegedly led by a police officer known as “Mr A”.
The reports also alleged that several associates linked to the group were previously connected to the infamous Langkawi drug syndicate led by Mat Nahar, who died six years ago.
The alleged re-emergence of the syndicate has reportedly contributed to persistent drug problems in Langkawi despite numerous enforcement operations conducted by police and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).
Meanwhile, Mohd Khalid stressed that PDRM remains committed to combating drug-related crimes nationwide.
“This year alone, PDRM has carried out several major drug seizures to ensure the country’s security remains protected,” he added.
