Abandoned Boat Leads To Major Drug Haul In Kuala Kurau River Mouth Raid

Date:

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Kuala Kurau Zone has successfully disrupted a drug trafficking attempt off the Perak coast after seizing heroin and methamphetamine estimated to be worth around RM12,000 in a special operation conducted at a secluded river mouth area yesterday.

In the incident, two men believed to be involved in the activity managed to flee into a nearby mangrove swamp after spotting enforcement officers, escaping arrest.

According to Kuala Kurau MMEA Zone Director Commander Mohd Hairil Othman, officers inspected an abandoned wooden boat without registration numbers and discovered two types of pre-packaged drugs onboard.

He added that investigators also recovered approximately RM2,500 in cash found inside a bag on the vessel, believed to be connected to drug trafficking activities, along with several mobile phones. The total value of all seized items is estimated at RM40,000.

All seized items have been transported to the Kuala Kurau Maritime Zone Headquarters for further investigation, and the case is being probed under the relevant legal provisions.
