Two high-powered motorcycle riders performing “wheelie” stunts while riding in a convoy along the Setiawangsa–Pantai Expressway (SPE) in Kuala Lumpur have been arrested by police on Saturday.
The arrests were made by the Intelligence/Operations Unit of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) following intelligence gathering after a video of the stunt went viral on the Threads app.
Kuala Lumpur JSPT chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the two local men, aged 31 and 36, were detained at about 6am.
He said both suspects were remanded for one day to assist investigations under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving endangering other road users.
Among the actions taken were applications for CCTV footage from the location, recording of statements from the suspects, and documentation of the motorcycles involved, he added.
The video was detected by Kuala Lumpur JSPT after it went viral on Friday.
Mohd Zamzuri said checks revealed that the incident took place on May 9 at about 11am on the SPE Highway from the city centre towards Putrajaya.
He said the dangerous stunt was believed to have been performed using two motorcycles, a red Ducati Hypermotard 950 and a black Ducati Panigale.
He stressed that JSPT Kuala Lumpur takes a serious view of road users engaging in dangerous stunts and will not compromise with any individuals who violate the law and endanger public safety.
