Police have arrested a man who fled after allegedly stabbing a woman inside a car in front of a restaurant in Titi Gajah, Kepala Batas.
Kota Setar district police chief Syed Basri Syed Ali confirmed that the 32-year-old suspect was successfully detained and is expected to be remanded on Monday.
“For your information, the suspect in the stabbing case has been arrested. He will be brought to court for a remand application,” he said.
Previously, reports stated that a woman suffered injuries to the right side of her neck after she was allegedly stabbed by a man in the incident on Sunday night.
According to Syed Basri, the attack took place at around 9.19pm while the victim was inside a Mazda 3 vehicle, before the suspect fled the scene.
The victim was later rushed to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.
Police believe the victim and suspect knew each other, although the motive behind the incident remains under investigation.
Initial investigations found that the vehicle involved belonged to the victim and that she was seated in the driver’s seat at the time of the attack.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a weapon.
The incident had earlier sparked concern online after details of the stabbing circulated widely on social media before the suspect was eventually tracked down by authorities.
