The High Court has ordered political influencer Wan Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, to pay RM280,000 in damages to former Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Lim Guan Eng and his son over a defamatory Facebook post published in 2020.
Judicial Commissioner Roslan Mat Nor ruled that Wan Azri had defamed both plaintiffs through a Facebook post dated March 14, 2020.
The post allegedly claimed that Lim’s son, Clint Lim, had been detained while attempting to smuggle RM2 million into Singapore.
It also alleged that Guan Eng travelled to Singapore on February 29, 2020 to rescue his son.
Following the ruling, the court ordered Wan Azri to pay RM200,000 in damages to Guan Eng and RM80,000 to Clint Lim.
The court further awarded legal costs amounting to RM30,000 to Guan Eng and RM10,000 to his son.
The case centred on allegations published on social media, which the court found to be defamatory against the former finance minister and his family.
The ruling marks another high-profile defamation case involving political commentary and online content in Malaysia.
