A 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty at the Yong Peng Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to raping his former girlfriend, who was 15 years old at the time of the incident.
The teenager, who has stopped attending school, admitted to the offence after the charge under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code was read before Magistrate Arun Noval Dass.
Based on the charge, the accused was alleged to have committed the offence at a house in the district at around 3pm in May last year.
Under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, offenders can face up to 20 years in prison and whipping upon conviction. However, juvenile offenders may instead be subjected to rehabilitation measures such as a good behaviour bond, community service, or detention at the Henry Gurney School.
The case came to light after a doctor lodged a police report when the victim revealed the incident while undergoing psychiatric treatment.
Police investigations found that the victim had travelled to the accused’s house using a p-hailing service before the incident allegedly occurred.
The victim reportedly kept the matter to herself and did not inform anyone initially, with the incident only surfacing during her medical consultation.
The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Firdaus Ruslan, while the accused was represented by lawyer Tan Song Yan.
The court fixed July 1 for the mention of the social report from the Social Welfare Department, presentation of case facts, and sentencing. Bail was set at RM1,000 with one surety.
