Police Bust Motorcycle Theft Gang Dumping Frames Into Rivers In Kepong

Date:

The criminal tactic of the “Geng Hadi” motorcycle theft syndicate, which involved dismantling stolen motorcycles before selling the parts and dumping the frames into rivers around Kepong, has been uncovered following the arrest of six suspects on May 16.

Sentul District Police Deputy Chief Superintendent Jasni Zolpa said the group, which had been active since February, was believed to be involved in motorcycle thefts within the jurisdiction of the Sentul District Police Headquarters.

He said police received a report from a 55-year-old man working as a courier after his Honda EX5 motorcycle went missing from a parking area at Block A, Taman Mutiara Fadason Flats on May 13.

“Acting on intelligence and investigations, officers from the D4 Branch of the Sentul Criminal Investigation Division successfully arrested six local men aged between 15 and 33,” he said at a press conference.

He added that the syndicate was believed to be led by an 18-year-old suspect known as Hadi.

Police investigations revealed that stolen motorcycles were taken to a storage location in Kepong, where they were dismantled for selected parts to be sold or used.

“The remaining motorcycle frames were disposed of in rivers around Kepong to destroy evidence,” he said.

Following the raids and arrests, police seized two motorcycles, five partially dismantled frames, a motorcycle coverset, and two mobile phones.

The operation also led to the resolution of eight motorcycle theft cases in the Sentul area, with total losses estimated at RM20,000.

All suspects were remanded for six days from May 17 to assist investigations under Section 379A of the Penal Code.

Jasni also said that the underage suspect was not in school, while the adult suspects were unemployed.
