A car repossessor pleaded not guilty at the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court on Friday to a charge of causing grievous hurt to his wife by allegedly throwing a dressing table chair at her, resulting in her left arm being broken during an incident two weeks ago.
The accused, Muhammad Rizman Akmal Ahmadiah, 28, entered the plea before Judge Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin.
According to the charge, the accused allegedly caused serious injuries to his 27-year-old wife, which were later confirmed by medical officer Dr Durratul Ain Shohaimi when the victim received treatment at Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah in Muar, Johor.
The offence was allegedly committed at about 6.30am on May 6 at a house in Kampung Seri Mawar, Paya Redan, Tiang Dua, within the Melaka Tengah district.
The charge was framed under Section 325 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of seven years and a possible fine upon conviction.
Based on case facts, an argument reportedly broke out between the complainant and her husband before the suspect became enraged after the victim slapped him on the left cheek.
The accused allegedly threw a metal dressing table chair at the victim and struck her head using a wooden curtain rod.
He was also accused of pulling the victim’s hair, punching and kicking her near the right eye, as well as repeatedly kicking her head.
Investigations found the argument allegedly started after the victim checked the suspect’s mobile phone and discovered he had been watching inappropriate videos of women through social media applications.
The victim reportedly confronted and scolded the accused, which then led to the altercation.
Deputy public prosecutor Rif’ah ‘Izatti Abdul Mutalif requested bail at RM15,000 along with additional conditions requiring the accused to report to a nearby police station every month.
In separate proceedings at the Magistrate’s Court, the accused also faced another charge of using criminal force against a police officer by struggling with the officer to obstruct him from carrying out his duties.
The alleged offence was said to have taken place at the same location on May 8 at around 11.45am.
The charge was framed under Section 353 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
The accused also claimed trial before Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman, while deputy public prosecutor Shaza Nur Sharif proposed bail of RM8,000.
Defence lawyer Fahmy Sulaiman appealed for lower bail, saying his client, who also worked part-time as an insurance agent and food delivery rider, needed to support his wife and their one-year-old child.
The lawyer added that the accused was also supporting his parents and two younger siblings who were still in school, while his father suffers from heart disease and high cholesterol.
The court later set bail at RM8,000 for the first case and RM3,500 for the second charge, while fixing June 30, 2026 for case mention.
