A teacher from a school in Setiu, Terengganu has been transferred to the district education office while investigations are carried out into allegations of sexual misconduct that recently went viral on social media.
In a statement today, the Terengganu State Education Department said the Education Ministry’s Integrity Unit is currently handling the case.
It urged members of the public with any relevant information on sexual misconduct cases to come forward and report them to the department.
“The State Education Department will not compromise on any allegations of sexual misconduct involving educational institutions under its jurisdiction,” it said, adding that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
The department also stressed that firm measures will be enforced against offenders if the allegations are proven true.
The incident comes shortly after a similar case in Johor, where a male teacher was arrested and remanded for six days over alleged sexual misconduct involving a 12-year-old pupil.
In that case, police are investigating claims that the teacher had allegedly touched the child inappropriately for sexual purposes following a police report lodged by the victim’s mother.
