SUKMA Rugby Player Dies After Collapsing During Training In Kulim

A SUKMA rugby player from Penang has died after collapsing during a training session with his team at the Batalion 2 General Operations Force (GOF) field in Kulim yesterday.

Muhammad Adam Putra Syahril, 21, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the emergency department of Kulim Hospital after being transported by ambulance.

Kulim District Deputy Police Chief, DSP Tengku Mohd Faisal Tengku Yeng, said the victim’s mother, aged 49, was informed around 5.30pm by the team coach that her son had suddenly collapsed and became unconscious during training.

He said the victim was immediately rushed to Hospital Kulim for emergency treatment by Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel.

“Witnesses provided initial assistance at the scene, but the victim showed no response and emergency services were called. He was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital,” he said in a statement.

Investigations found that the victim had no known prior medical history, and the body was later sent to the Forensic Department of Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar for post-mortem examination.

Tengku Mohd Faisal said the victim was a student at a higher education institution in Arau, Perlis and was undergoing industrial training in Kulim at the time.

He added that the deceased was a rugby player representing Penang in the SUKMA Games.

The case has been classified as sudden death.
