Eleven men were hauled before the Sessions Court and charged with allegedly being members of an organised crime syndicate known as Gang RT6.
The accused — Raja Ratanam, K Sunthreson, C Vijaya Kumar, N Nadarajah, T Raman, R Vijayan, M Kumaaran, N Harichandran, S Maran, Suwaran Singh and Atif Ali Khan — were charged under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code.
According to the charge sheet, the alleged offence took place in the Sentul area between January 14 and April 27, 2020.
If convicted, all eleven men could face prison sentences ranging from five to 20 years.
No plea was recorded during proceedings as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Sessions Court judge Izralizam Sanusi fixed June 24 for the next case management session.
The court also ordered all accused to remain in custody pending the completion of legal proceedings.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutors Lokman Kassim and Yazid Mustaqim Roslan.
Meanwhile, lawyers Rajpal Singh, M Mathaban and Kevin Francis represented several of the accused, including Raja Ratanam, Kumaaran, Harichandran, Vijaya Kumar, Vijayan and Maran.
The remaining five accused appeared in court without legal representation.
