Students Allegedly Hid Wireless Earbuds Under Hijabs During Exams Sparking University Cheating Controversy

Date:

A viral social media allegation claiming students secretly used hidden wireless earbuds during university examinations has triggered heated debate online over academic cheating, fake honours and whether higher education institutions are still able to keep up with evolving technology.

The controversy erupted after a user on Threads claimed that several students at a local university had concealed tiny wireless earbuds beneath their hijabs during exams to secretly listen to pre-recorded answers.

The allegations quickly spread across social media, drawing reactions from students, lecturers and working professionals concerned about the growing misuse of technology in academic environments.

As modern gadgets become smaller and harder to detect, concerns are mounting over how students may exploit devices such as smartwatches, AI-powered tools and hidden earpieces to gain unfair advantages during examinations and assignments.

The viral post was shared by user @maimunah_jantan, who said she had “lost respect” for graduates wearing the pink academic sash commonly associated with first-class honours.

According to her claims, her brother graduated with first-class results but did not receive the prestigious distinction, while another student who allegedly cheated managed to obtain the honour.

She further alleged that the student frequently contributed little during group assignments before later admitting to secretly listening to prepared answers during final examinations.

The post also claimed some female students took advantage of their hijabs to discreetly hide wireless earbuds without attracting suspicion from invigilators.

“She proudly said being a woman was an advantage because earphones could be hidden under the hijab during exams and nobody would notice,” the user alleged.

The accusations immediately sparked broader conversations about academic integrity and the ability of universities to monitor increasingly sophisticated cheating methods.

One social media user described the tactic as a “very serious offence,” warning that students caught cheating in examinations could face expulsion.

Another individual identifying as a lecturer admitted it was the first time hearing of such a method, despite previously catching students using hidden notes, banned calculators and smartwatches.

“Technology keeps evolving. Today it’s hidden devices, tomorrow it’ll be smart glasses,” the lecturer commented online.

Others argued that academic grades alone do not guarantee future success in the working world.

One user pointed out that a strong CGPA may only help graduates secure job interviews, while real-world skills, discipline and work ethic would ultimately determine long-term career success.

Another social media user shared an example involving a Dean’s List graduate who allegedly failed probation at work after employers discovered assignments had previously been outsourced to others.

The viral discussion has since reignited concerns over how universities can preserve fairness and credibility as technology continues advancing faster than traditional examination systems.
