PLUS To Launch JustGo Open Toll Payment System Nationwide This August

Date:

PLUS Malaysia Berhad will officially roll out its new open toll payment system, JustGo, across all PLUS-operated highways beginning this August, allowing motorists to use any toll lane regardless of payment method.

The new system is expected to benefit up to two million highway users daily by offering greater flexibility and smoother travel at toll plazas nationwide.

JustGo spokesperson Peter Lee said the system uses Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology, enabling vehicles to be identified automatically through licence plate scanning.

Under the system, drivers will no longer be restricted to specific lanes based on payment modes such as Touch ‘n Go, RFID or SmartTAG.

“All lanes can be used freely. Users can enter through a Touch ‘n Go lane and exit through RFID, or enter via RFID and exit through SmartTAG without any issue,” he explained during a media session at Balai Berita in Bangsar.

Peter said the August launch will initially cover all PLUS highways before being expanded to other highway concessionaires in the future.

For the initial rollout, the system will only be available for Class 1 vehicles.

He revealed that discussions are already ongoing with several other highway operators to integrate them into the JustGo ecosystem.

According to him, the long-term vision is for JustGo to become an industry-wide platform rather than being controlled by a single company.

“The goal is not purely profit-driven. It is about making travel easier for users,” he said.

So far, the JustGo mobile application has already been downloaded by nearly 300,000 users, with the short-term target set at reaching one million users.

Peter added that the system is currently undergoing pilot testing at nine toll plazas in the northern region involving routes between Sungai Dua and Hutan Kampung.

He said the flexibility of choosing any lane could help reduce congestion at toll plazas, especially when certain lanes become crowded with heavy vehicles or traffic queues.

“With ANPR technology, users no longer need to match payment methods with specific lanes, which can significantly improve traffic flow,” he explained.

Motorists only need to download the JustGo application, register an account and vehicle, then link a debit or credit card to begin using the system.

No RFID sticker, SmartTAG device or additional hardware is required.

Users can register up to 10 vehicles under a single account, although each vehicle can only be linked to one registered user.

Toll charges will be deducted directly from the linked payment card without requiring advance reloads or top-ups.

Peter also described JustGo as one of the preparatory steps towards the future implementation of the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll system in Malaysia.

He stressed that while MLFF implementation remains a government decision, the adoption of ANPR technology through JustGo is part of the industry’s readiness efforts for the
