An e-hailing driver was left stunned after a dispute over a RM7 fare spiralled into a heated confrontation, with a male passenger allegedly turning aggressive and striking his wife during the argument.
The incident was captured in a four-minute video uploaded by Rakyat E-Hailing MY on Facebook, which has since gone viral across social media platforms.
According to the driver, the argument began after the passenger attempted to pay for the RM7 trip using a RM50 note.
The driver explained that he did not have enough smaller notes to return the RM43 balance, saying most passengers usually paid using RM10 or RM20 notes.
“I don’t have enough small change. Usually customers give smaller denominations,” the driver was heard explaining in the video.
However, the explanation appeared to upset the passenger, who then argued that he no longer wanted to pay for the ride.
The driver calmly responded that he was willing to let the matter go and instead file a complaint regarding the incident.
“If you don’t want to pay, it’s okay. I’ll just make a report,” he said.
The situation quickly became more tense after the passenger reportedly took offence at the driver’s statement and insisted it was the driver’s responsibility to prepare enough change for customers.
As voices were raised inside the vehicle, the passenger’s wife reportedly attempted to calm the situation and intervene in the argument. However, the man allegedly lashed out and hit her in front of the driver.
Shocked by the incident, the e-hailing driver immediately instructed both passengers to leave the vehicle to prevent the situation from escalating further.
The viral video has since sparked outrage online, with many social media users criticising the passenger’s behaviour and expressing sympathy towards both the driver and the woman involved.
Rakyat E-Hailing MY later revealed that the driver has already lodged a formal report with Grab regarding the incident.
