Mara Vows Zero Compromise On Student Safety In Sexual Misconduct Cases

Date:

Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) has stressed that it will not tolerate any form of sexual misconduct involving teachers at Mara Junior Science Colleges (MRSM) or other educational institutions under its management.

Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the agency has strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place to ensure complaints involving student safety and welfare are acted upon immediately.

“There is absolutely no compromise when it comes to the safety and wellbeing of students at MRSMs and all Mara educational institutions,” he said.

According to Asyraf, any teacher accused of sexual misconduct or harassment involving students would be suspended immediately once a complaint is received.

“A police report will then be lodged, and the teacher involved will be transferred to the state Mara office while investigations are being carried out,” he explained.

He was responding to allegations raised by education activist and former teacher Mohd Fadli Salleh, who had urged authorities to suspend a male teacher at an MRSM over allegations involving a Form Three male student.

In a Facebook post, Fadli claimed the 28-year-old teacher was still teaching at the school despite facing three charges linked to an incident that allegedly took place in December last year.

He also alleged that the teacher had previously been remanded and was currently out on bail while awaiting trial this year.

Commenting further on the viral case, Asyraf revealed that he contacted Mara’s top management at around 12.15am after learning about the allegations circulating online.

Initial findings indicated that the case was already under court proceedings and that the accused teacher was no longer teaching at the MRSM, but had instead been reassigned to a state Mara office.

“He has already been transferred to the state Mara office. Nevertheless, I have instructed the Secondary Education Division to review the matter thoroughly,” he said.

Asyraf added that he wants a complete report on the case by Friday and warned that stern action would be taken if any negligence or oversight was discovered.

“If there has been any failure in handling the matter, I want an explanation immediately,” he stressed.

He also thanked Fadli for highlighting the issue publicly and invited him to share any additional information directly.

“Rest assured, nothing will be swept under the carpet. I will personally ensure this matter is investigated seriously,” he said.
