Nada To Deploy Special Test Kits Nationwide To Detect Fentanyl In Vape Liquids

Date:

The National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada) will begin deploying specialised test kits nationwide next month to detect fentanyl and other dangerous synthetic substances amid rising concerns over drug-laced vape liquids.

Nada director-general Ruslin Jusoh said the agency has already distributed the testing kits to all its offices across the country ahead of enforcement operations scheduled to begin in June.

According to him, the new kits are capable of identifying several high-risk substances, including fentanyl, synthetic cannabinoids, cocaine and psilocybin — the psychoactive compound commonly found in so-called “magic mushrooms”.

The move comes as authorities grow increasingly concerned over the emergence of synthetic drugs being mixed into vape liquids, particularly among younger users.

Ruslin said the enhanced detection capability would help enforcement officers identify new types of substances more quickly during raids and inspections.

The nationwide rollout is also expected to strengthen ongoing anti-drug operations as authorities continue monitoring the spread of synthetic drug abuse in Malaysia.

Concerns surrounding fentanyl have been escalating globally due to its extreme potency and links to fatal overdoses in several countries, while synthetic cannabinoids and drug-infused vape products have also become increasingly difficult for authorities to track using conventional methods.

Nada’s latest initiative is seen as part of broader efforts to combat evolving drug trends and prevent dangerous substances from becoming more widespread in the country.
