Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh has challenged DAP Youth to withdraw its support for Barisan Nasional-led state governments if it is serious about its political stance, while also urging it to push for the dissolution of Parliament.
Responding to criticism from DAP Youth, Akmal said it should not forget BN’s role in helping ensure political stability after the last general election, claiming that cooperation between coalitions had been key to forming the current federal administration.
He further questioned whether DAP Youth was prepared to pull its backing from BN-led state administrations in Perak and Pahang, adding that political differences should instead be tested through elections.
Akmal also said there was no issue with Umno’s intention to contest independently in the Johor state election, insisting that no formal agreement required BN and Pakatan Harapan to work together in all future polls.
He also took aim at DAP leaders serving in BN-led state governments, pointing out that some remained in their positions despite earlier disagreements, while contrasting it with his own resignation attempts as a Melaka executive councillor, which were not accepted.
