MPV Rear-Ends Motorcycle, Killing Rider At Sepupok Bridge

A motorcyclist was killed in a road accident at Sepupok Bridge near Miri late Thursday night after his motorcycle was struck from behind by a multipurpose vehicle (MPV).

Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said preliminary investigations showed that the 62-year-old victim was travelling from Niah towards Miri when the collision occurred.

He said the impact of the crash caused the rider to be thrown onto the road. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at about 9.40pm by a medical assistant from Batu Niah Health Clinic.

Authorities confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving.

ACP Mohd Farhan urged witnesses or members of the public with information on the incident to come forward and assist investigations by contacting the Traffic Investigation Officer or the nearest police station.

He also reminded road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations at all times to help prevent fatal accidents on the road.
