Armed Riot At Snooker Club Leads To Nine Arrests In Betong

Date:

Police have arrested nine men aged between 23 and 35 in connection with an alleged armed riot at a snooker club in Debak, Betong, on Friday morning.

Betong district police chief DSP Wan Mohamad Ali Wan Malek said the suspects were detained at several locations in Pusa and Debak between 2.30pm and 4pm following a police report lodged at 11.56am.

He said all nine suspects are currently under remand until June 2 to assist investigations.

Police also confirmed that two of the suspects had prior drug-related offences, while one tested positive for ketamine during screening.

Preliminary investigations found that the incident stemmed from a dispute between two individuals who were under the influence of alcohol and knew each other, before escalating into a larger group altercation.

Members of the public reportedly intervened in an attempt to break up the fight at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported and clarified that the incident was not linked to any gangsterism elements.

The fight was captured by bystanders, and clips of the incident have since circulated on social media.
