Skudai Representative Marina Ibrahim Announces Exit From Political Arena

Date:

Skudai DAP assemblywoman Marina Ibrahim has announced that she will not defend her state seat in the next election and will step away from active politics after serving more than four years as an elected representative.

Marina said the decision was made after careful discussions with those who have supported her throughout her political journey.

In a broader political context, such retirements are not uncommon in state-level politics, where elected representatives often reassess their roles after a single or limited number of terms.

She reflected on her time in office, saying her initial motivation when entering Skudai was rooted in a simple intention to serve the community to the best of her ability.

Marina said she arrived without a strong political machinery but with sincere intent and a commitment to fulfil the responsibilities entrusted to her.

She added that she now intends to return to grassroots engagement and community-based social work, which she had been involved in prior to entering politics.

In her statement, she expressed gratitude to voters who supported her during the previous Johor state election and acknowledged her team members for standing by her through various challenges.

Marina also thanked constituents for their trust during her tenure as Skudai assemblywoman.

In the last state election, she secured 26,359 votes, defeating Barisan Nasional candidate Lim Soon Hai, who obtained 12,416 votes, and Perikatan Nasional candidate Khoo Keng Ek, who received 6,258 votes.

Separately, Johor DAP chairman Teo Nie Ching has been contacted for comment regarding the announcement.
