Firefighters successfully rescued a 32-year-old hiker weighing approximately 100 kilograms after he suffered a suspected fractured left leg while trekking near Jeram Perlus Waterfall.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency call regarding the incident at 12.58pm on Sunday, prompting an immediate response to the remote hiking location.
Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said rescue teams from the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn and Ampang Fire and Rescue Stations were deployed, with a total of 10 personnel involved in the operation.
Upon arrival at around 1.31pm, rescuers were informed by the victim’s friends that the man had injured his leg during the hike and was unable to walk out of the area on his own.
“The victim sustained an injury to his leg and could not continue the journey. Due to the terrain and his condition, firefighters had to carry him out using a stretcher,” Ahmad Mukhlis said in a statement.
The challenging rescue operation required firefighters to navigate difficult terrain while transporting the injured man, whose weight was estimated to be between 100 and 110 kilograms.
After hours of careful extraction efforts, the victim was successfully brought down from the hiking area at approximately 9am on Monday.
He was later handed over to personnel from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) before being transported to Ampang Hospital for further medical treatment.
The incident serves as a reminder for hikers to take extra precautions when exploring remote trails and waterfalls, especially in areas where rescue operations can become lengthy and physically demanding due to challenging terrain.
