Three owners of luxury vehicles claimed they had forgotten to renew their road tax after their Toyota Vellfire and two BMWs were seized during a special enforcement operation conducted by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
JPJ Kuala Lumpur director Hamidi Adam said inspections carried out during Op Luxury revealed that all three vehicles were being driven with expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) and without valid insurance coverage.
Among the vehicles seized was a Toyota Vellfire belonging to a local contractor, while one of the BMWs was owned by a Chinese national who is believed to be involved in business activities.
“The owners gave various reasons, including claiming that they had forgotten to renew their road tax. However, inspections confirmed that the vehicles had expired licences and no active insurance protection,” Hamidi said in a statement on Monday.
As a result, all three vehicles were confiscated for further action under the Road Transport Act 1987.
The operation forms part of JPJ Kuala Lumpur’s ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with road transport regulations, particularly among owners of high-value vehicles.
Hamidi stressed that enforcement officers will continue conducting regular monitoring and investigations based on public complaints and intelligence gathered by the department.
He reminded vehicle owners that regardless of the value or status of their vehicles, all motorists are required to comply with road tax and insurance requirements before using their vehicles on public roads.
The latest operation highlights JPJ’s commitment to ensuring that every vehicle on Malaysian roads meets legal requirements, with authorities warning that no exceptions will be made for luxury vehicle owners who fail to comply with the law.
