The Election Commission (EC) will convene a special meeting to determine the key dates for the upcoming Johor State Election once it receives official notification of the State Legislative Assembly’s dissolution.
EC chairman Ramlan Harun said the commission has taken note of Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi’s announcement regarding the dissolution of the 15th Johor State Legislative Assembly on 1 June 2026.
According to him, the EC is now awaiting formal confirmation from the Speaker of the Johor State Assembly before proceeding with election-related arrangements.
“Once the official notification on the dissolution date is received from the Speaker, the EC will announce the date of the special meeting to discuss important matters concerning the Johor State Election,” he said in a statement.
Earlier on Monday, Onn Hafiz announced during a special press conference at his official residence in Saujana, Johor Bahru, that the Johor State Assembly had been dissolved with immediate effect to pave the way for fresh state polls.
He revealed that the decision was made after receiving consent from the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, during an audience held earlier in the day.
The dissolution sets the stage for another major electoral contest in Johor, with attention now turning to the EC’s upcoming announcement on nomination day, early voting and polling dates.
