Ee Wei Suffers ACL Injury Blow, Withdraws From Indonesia Open

Date:

Malaysia’s mixed doubles hopes have been dealt a major setback after Toh Ee Wei was ruled out of the Indonesia Open 2026 due to a knee injury.

The 24-year-old shuttler sustained the injury while competing in the quarter-finals of last week’s Singapore Open, forcing her and partner Chen Tang Jie to pull out of the prestigious tournament in Jakarta.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed on Monday that medical examinations revealed Ee Wei had suffered a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee.

“Following the injury, Ee Wei and her mixed doubles partner Chen Tang Jie have withdrawn from the Indonesia Open 2026,” BAM said in a statement.

The injury comes as a huge disappointment for the national camp, as Tang Jie and Ee Wei have established themselves as one of Malaysia’s leading mixed doubles pairs on the international circuit.

Ee Wei is scheduled to undergo a further MRI assessment this Friday to determine the full extent of the injury. The results will help BAM’s medical team formulate the most suitable treatment plan and rehabilitation programme for the player.

With several major tournaments on the horizon, Malaysian badminton fans will now be anxiously awaiting updates on Ee Wei’s recovery and potential return to competition.
