Police arrested a 50-year-old man less than six hours after he allegedly sprayed a married couple with pepper spray during a confrontation in Seremban 2 on Monday.
Seremban District Police Chief Mohd Yatim Osman said the suspect was detained in front of his home in Seremban at around 11.45pm following a police report lodged by a 49-year-old woman.
According to investigators, the incident occurred at about 6pm when the woman and her husband were travelling in a Perodua Bezza. The couple allegedly noticed a Honda Accord following closely behind them.
The suspect’s vehicle then reportedly overtook the couple and blocked their path before the man exited his car and attempted to provoke them.
Police said the suspect subsequently retrieved an item from the rear section of his vehicle before spraying a pepper-based irritant towards the husband and wife.
The attack caused both victims to suffer eye irritation, burning sensations and discomfort.
During the arrest, police seized a black pepper spray canister believed to have been used in the incident. The canister, manufactured in the United States, reportedly bore the word “Police” on its exterior.
Background checks revealed that the suspect has three previous records related to drug offences. However, a urine screening test conducted following his arrest returned a negative result.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
