Azam Baki Denies Albert Tei’s Claims After Giving Statement To Police

Date:

Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has confirmed that he provided a statement to police at Bukit Aman on Wednesday as part of an investigation into allegations made by businessman Albert Tei.

Azam reportedly arrived at the federal police headquarters at around 9am and spent nearly two hours being questioned by investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Speaking after the session, Azam said he had given his full cooperation to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) but firmly denied all allegations levelled against him by Albert Tei.

“I informed the police that I have never met Albert Tei and have never had any dealings with him,” Azam said.

“I also told investigators that I never instructed any lawyer to meet any party on my behalf. I submitted evidence to support my position that I have never met Albert Tei or conducted any direct dealings with him.”

The statement comes amid an ongoing police investigation following claims made by the businessman earlier this year.

Previously, authorities confirmed that Azam would be called to have his statement recorded as part of the probe into allegations lodged by Tei.

Bukit Aman CID director Datuk M Kumar had earlier revealed that Albert Tei filed a police report on May 13, alleging that he had been threatened through his lawyer.

According to Kumar, investigators are examining the case under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which relates to criminal intimidation.

The investigation remains ongoing as police continue gathering statements and evidence from individuals connected to the matter.

No charges have been announced, and authorities have yet to disclose further details regarding the allegations while the probe continues.
