Police Hunt Suspects After Kaamatan Celebration Brawl Goes Viral

Police are tracking down individuals involved in a brawl that allegedly broke out near the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) grounds during the recent Kaamatan celebrations.

The incident gained widespread attention after several videos of the fight circulated on social media, showing a group of people exchanging punches and grappling outside the event venue.

Penampang deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Erwansyah Abdul Basir said preliminary investigations indicate that the altercation was triggered by a misunderstanding among several individuals.

He added that no weapons were believed to have been used during the incident.

“The fight was eventually brought under control by members of the public who intervened,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to Erwansyah, police have already called in several individuals to have their statements recorded as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are also working to identify all parties involved and locate additional witnesses who may be able to assist in the case.

Police are currently reviewing video footage that has been widely shared online to establish the sequence of events and determine those responsible.

The viral clips showed chaotic scenes outside the KDCA grounds, with several individuals seen exchanging blows before bystanders stepped in to stop the confrontation.

Investigations are ongoing.
