Immigration Dept Nabs Seven Myanmar Nationals Without Valid Documents In Kedah

Date:

The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) in Kedah detained seven Myanmar men for not possessing valid travel documents or passes during an operation at the roadside area of the Jitra (North) Toll Plaza at midnight yesterday.

In a broader context, authorities continue to intensify enforcement efforts nationwide to curb the movement of undocumented migrants and dismantle syndicates involved in illegal entry and transit activities.

In a statement, JIM Kedah said the arrests were made by its Intelligence and Special Operations Division at about 12.30am following intelligence and surveillance work.

The seven men were found waiting for a transport vehicle at the location when they were inspected by enforcement officers.

Checks revealed that all of them, aged between 22 and 37, failed to produce any valid travel documents or identification to remain in the country.

They were subsequently taken to the JIM Kedah Enforcement Division office for further investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and related regulations.

JIM Kedah also said further investigations are underway to determine the group’s modus operandi, including whether they had just entered Malaysia or were attempting to exit the country through illegal routes.

Investigations are also focused on identifying individuals or syndicates believed to be coordinating the movement of the foreign nationals.

The department stressed that strict action will be taken against any parties involved, and reiterated its commitment to intensifying enforcement operations to safeguard national security and sovereignty.
