19-Year-Old Arrested In Meradong Op Tapis Over Drug Abuse

A 19-year-old man has been arrested during Op Tapis conducted by the Meradong District Police Headquarters (IPD) over suspected involvement in drug abuse.

Meradong district police chief DSP Tansli Mering said the arrest was made at 3.20pm on Friday during the operation carried out by police personnel.

He said the suspect was later taken to the IPD Meradong for a urine screening test.

“The test results found that the suspect was positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he told the media today.

He added that checks also showed the suspect had no prior criminal or drug-related records.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted, offenders may face a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years.

Police stressed that they take drug-related offences seriously and will not compromise with any individuals involved.

The public is also urged to provide information on drug-related activities in the Meradong district by contacting the Bintangor Police Station at 084-693222.
