Date:

A man who was reported missing after leaving his home on Sunday was found dead in a plantation area near a recreational and homestay site in Batu Kurau today.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said authorities received an emergency call at 12.19pm regarding the discovery of the body of 42-year-old Zakaria Shamsudin.

Police confirmed that the body was that of the man who had been missing for nearly a week.

The remains have been handed over to police for further investigation.

Zakaria, who was a person with disabilities (OKU) due to mental health conditions, was reported missing on June 1 after leaving his home in Simpang 4, Anak Kurau with his stepson.

He was believed to have headed towards a bushy area about 300 metres from his home before disappearing while his stepson stopped to tie his shoelaces.

Following the report, police launched a coordinated search and rescue operation involving multiple agencies including the Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force and local villagers.

However, the SAR operation was called off on June 2 after no new leads were found.
