A shophouse used as a grocery storage facility in Kampung Cina Belawai was completely destroyed in a fire early Sunday morning.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said five firefighters from the Tanjung Manis Fire Station were deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 3.34am.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a 30-by-30-foot shophouse being used to store grocery items fully engulfed in flames, with the structure already severely damaged.
The department confirmed that the 64-year-old owner was safe and no injuries or casualties were reported.
Firefighters immediately carried out suppression work and managed to bring the blaze under control at about 4.16am.
They continued extinguishing operations until the fire was completely put out after ensuring there were no remaining hotspots.
The operation concluded at 5.24am before the team returned to station.
The cause of the fire and total losses are still under investigation.
