JPJ Cracks Down On Illegal Ride Operator At KLIA Terminal 1

Date:

A Proton Saga driver has been arrested after being found offering illegal car-for-hire services at Terminal 1 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), yesterday.

Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) Deputy Director Datuk Ahmad Kamarunzaman Mehat said the “ulat” operation was carried out following intelligence gathering and continuous monitoring at the KLIA enforcement station.

He said enforcement officers detained the driver and seized the vehicle for further investigation.

Preliminary investigations found that the driver had approached and persuaded three Pakistani passengers at KLIA Terminal 1, offering transport to Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS), Kuala Lumpur for RM60, with payment to be made upon arrival.

Authorities said individuals found guilty of such offences may face action under Section 205(1) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (APAD 2010), which carries a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both upon conviction.

JPJ also warned that those abetting “ulat” activities could be prosecuted under Section 243(1) of the same Act.

Members of the public are advised to use only legal transport services available at KLIA terminals or via e-hailing applications.

JPJ added that complaints can be submitted through official channels including email and the e-Aduan JPJ platform for further action.
