Political contests in Johor and Negri Sembilan should be centred on justice and equal opportunities rather than racial rhetoric or divisive narratives, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.
He noted that both states have recently dissolved their state assemblies, paving the way for upcoming state elections.
Anwar said political discussions are often dominated by issues of race, status and wealth, while the concerns of ordinary Malaysians and the future of their children are frequently overlooked.
He stressed that public discourse should not be reduced to competition over who can inflame racial sentiments, exploit majority-minority narratives or spread hatred.
Instead, he said, the emphasis must be placed on justice, equality and humanity.
The prime minister made the remarks in his speech after presenting an annual government grant to AIMST University.
