PM Anwar To Meet Japanese Leader Sanae Takaichi In Tokyo

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will undertake a three-day official visit to Japan, where he is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara, as quoted by broadcaster NHK World, said both leaders are expected to discuss a range of bilateral and international issues during the meeting.

These include developments in the Middle East, as well as cooperation in security and economic matters between both countries.

Kihara said Japan and Malaysia share strong ties as comprehensive strategic partners built on common values and principles.

He added that Malaysia remains an important partner in Japan’s vision of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific region.

During the visit, Anwar is also scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the 31st Nikkei International Conference on the Future of Asia on June 10.

He is expected to open the main session of the conference at 9.40am local time (8.40am Malaysian time).

The conference, themed “Where Great Minds Shape Tomorrow,” will bring together political leaders, business figures and international experts to discuss Asia’s economic outlook, geopolitical challenges and future growth.

Among those expected to attend are Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta, Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Thailand Deputy Prime Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow and Vietnam Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau.

Malaysian Ambassador to Japan Datuk Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany is expected to hold a press conference at the Malaysian Embassy in Tokyo to provide further details on the visit.
