A 17-year-old from Pasir Gudang, Johor has captured public attention after running a watermelon drink stall based on a unique “bayar seikhlas hati” or pay-as-you-wish concept.
Unlike most beverage stalls that operate with fixed pricing, Muhammad Zufar Azman allows customers to decide how much they want to pay for each cup of drink at his stall located in front of his family home in Taman Air Biru.
The stall has recently gone viral on TikTok, drawing praise not only for its refreshing drinks but also for the inspiring story behind the teenager.
Customers are free to contribute any amount into a donation box, with payments reportedly ranging from as low as 10 sen to as high as RM100 from generous supporters.
Speaking to local media, Zufar said he even gives drinks for free to children who are unable to pay, adding that he believes sustenance will always come in its own way.
According to his elder brother, the idea was introduced by the family to help Zufar develop independence and life skills after school.
The approach also helps ease operations as Zufar has difficulty calculating change, making the informal pricing system more suitable for him.
What began as a small family-supported effort has since grown steadily, especially after gaining traction on social media platforms.
The stall now receives assistance from a full-time worker and several school friends who help part-time, with sales averaging between 50 and 100 cups daily.
The business operates from 3pm to 7pm, with higher sales typically recorded on Fridays due to increased public support and contributions.
Family members say Zufar has shown notable improvement in communication and basic numeracy skills since starting the stall, progress they describe as meaningful and encouraging.
They also hope the story will inspire society to provide more opportunities for persons with disabilities to build independence and achieve their own goals.
