Wildfire Engulfs 20 Hectares Of Oil Palm Plantation In Saratok

Date:

Firefighters are working to contain a large wildfire that has swept through an oil palm plantation in Saratok district, affecting an estimated 20 hectares of land.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, the blaze was first reported on Saturday and is currently burning in the Scheme C area of the plantation near Kampung Kupang.

Authorities said firefighting teams have been deployed to the scene and are actively working to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby areas.

The department said at least 20 hectares of plantation land have been affected since the fire broke out.

The latest incident comes just months after Sarawak experienced a series of major forest and wildfire outbreaks across 11 districts during March and April.

Among the most significant was a forest fire in Tatau district, which was identified by authorities as the state’s largest hotspot this year.

Efforts to bring the latest blaze under control are ongoing.
