A 20-year-old college student endured a terrifying ordeal after a man she had recently met through social media allegedly threatened her with a sharp weapon and forced her to perform indecent acts during a late-night outing.
The incident is believed to have occurred at about 1.10am on Thursday when the victim managed to escape from the suspect’s vehicle after it stopped at a traffic light near Bulatan Gangsa in Durian Tunggal.
According to police, the victim had agreed to meet the 24-year-old suspect, who picked her up in a Proton Wira from a shopping centre in Bandar Hilir at around 12.20am. The pair had initially planned to head to Pantai Klebang.
However, the victim became suspicious when the man changed direction and drove towards Durian Tunggal instead. She repeatedly asked to be taken home, but the suspect allegedly ignored her requests and instructed her to switch off her live location tracking feature.
Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly brandished a sharp object, threatened the victim and forced her to comply with his demands. The woman later seized an opportunity to flee the vehicle and sought help before lodging a police report.
Acting on information gathered, police arrested the suspect and are investigating the case under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. His remand has been extended until June 9 to facilitate further investigations.
Police have also reminded the public, particularly students and young people, to exercise caution when meeting individuals known only through social media platforms and online messaging applications.
