A senior citizen has been sentenced to one year in jail by the Magistrates’ Court here after pleading guilty to throwing a rock at a moving van and shattering its window last year.
Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali meted out the sentence against Bujang Sanusi, 69, under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or both.
The incident occurred by the roadside near Kampung Sinar Budi Lama along Jalan Batu Kawa at about 7.25pm on July 5.
Based on the case facts, the van was travelling along the road when a rock thrown from the roadside struck the vehicle and shattered the rear right passenger-side window, causing damage estimated at RM900.
Police arrested Bujang following a report lodged by the van owner, with identification parade results confirming his involvement.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan, while the accused was unrepresented in court.
Earlier reports showed police had received complaints on July 7 last year regarding a man throwing rocks at passing vehicles and nearby premises.
Investigations later led to Bujang’s arrest, with several rocks also seized as evidence.
