Bukit Aman has warned BTS fans, also known as ARMYs, to be vigilant after a surge in fake concert ticket scams circulating online, involving losses totalling nearly RM95,000.
In a statement on Tuesday, Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said scammers and syndicates are actively promoting bogus BTS concert tickets through online platforms.
He said the modus operandi includes offering VIP, Soundcheck and Priority Access tickets even before official sales or pre-sale periods begin, along with claims of insider access or special ticket quotas.
Victims are often shown fake booking screenshots as “proof” before being instructed to make immediate payments via bank transfers, DuitNow or QR codes to secure their supposed reservations.
However, after payment is made, victims either do not receive any tickets or are completely cut off by the scammers, leaving them unable to recover their money.
Police confirmed a total of 41 cases have been reported so far, with losses amounting to RM95,974.81.
Comm Rusdi said authorities are concerned that high demand for concert tickets is making fans more vulnerable to fraud.
He urged the public to only purchase tickets through official channels announced by organisers and to avoid dealing with unofficial sellers claiming to have special allocations.
CCID will continue monitoring entertainment-related scams and take action against those involved in fraudulent activities, while advising the public to remain cautious and avoid making rushed financial decisions.
