A 48-year-old man with a mental disability pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here today to two counts of sexual physical assault involving teenage girls in Wakaf Bharu, Tumpat, near a school.
The accused, Abd. Sofar Abd. Satar, entered his plea after the charges were read before Judge Zulkpli Abdullah.
On the first charge, he was accused of sexually touching a 14-year-and-four-month-old girl. On the second charge, he was accused of committing a similar offence involving a 16-year-old girl.
Both incidents took place in front of a school in Wakaf Bharu, Tumpat at about 1.30pm on March 31, 2026, and 1.40pm on May 20, 2026.
The charges were framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Aiysha Na’ilah Harizan informed the court that the accused holds an OKU mental disability card.
The prosecution applied for the accused to undergo a one-month psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan, Perak.
In mitigation, the accused said he had repented and regretted his actions, claiming the offences were due to a lack of affection.
The court ordered him to be sent for psychiatric evaluation before sentencing or further proceedings.
The case has been fixed for mention on July 8.
