Negri Sembilan DAP is set to retain more than half of its incumbent assemblymen as candidates in the upcoming state election, as the party looks to continue its strong electoral record since 2013.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the candidate list is currently in its final stages and will be announced within the next few days.
He added that the party will also introduce several new faces in the election while aiming to defend the 11 seats it won in the previous state polls.
“The candidate list will be announced early so that candidates have sufficient time to prepare and familiarise themselves with their respective constituencies, especially the new faces,” he said.
Loke also stressed that any incumbent who is not reselected must support the new candidates to ensure continuity and strengthen the party’s chances of victory.
He made the remarks after launching the Lobak Electronic Screen at Dataran Lobak.
It was previously reported that Loke, who is also Negri Sembilan DAP chairman, will defend the Chennah seat.
The Negri Sembilan state legislative assembly was dissolved effective June 5 to make way for the state election, which must be held within 60 days.
In the 2023 state election, Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) formed the state government after winning 31 of the 36 seats, with PH securing 17 seats and BN 14, while Perikatan Nasional won five.
Negri Sembilan became the second state to dissolve its assembly after Johor on June 1.
