Suitable locations for the relocation of fire victims in Kampung Cina, Gok Kapur will be identified by the Kota Bharu Municipal Council–Islamic City (MPKB-BRI) before being discussed with the Kelantan state government.
MPKB-BRI president Datuk Zulkifle Ab Rahman said the move follows a fire incident that destroyed 27 houses in the area, taking into account that the homes were built on leased private land.
He said the council is currently reviewing several potential sites for relocation, but the matter is still at an early planning stage and requires further discussion with the state government.
“We are identifying suitable sites, but this is still at the discussion stage with the state government,” he said when met after presenting aid to fire victims on Wednesday.
He added that any relocation plan must receive state approval and also involve considerations on funding for housing construction if the proposal is approved.
Zulkifle also said further discussions would be held with the Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) to identify victims who may be eligible for zakat assistance.
“All aspects need to be carefully examined before any final decision is made,” he said.
For now, some of the victims have been placed at a temporary relief centre at Masjid Mukim Banggol, while others are staying with family members pending further action from the authorities.
